Villa Maecenas operates a residency program that runs from April to July and September to April each year in Ibiza, Spain.

Located in amidst the forests and fields of wild flowers of northern Ibiza, but only a few minutes away from quaint white washed villages and farm houses scattered around the island.

The Maecenas foundation aims to provide visiting artists a tranquil space, comfortable accommodation and working area. Some programs will offer free stay and full board, whereas others will only offer discounted rates.

Residents are invited to be our guests at the charming 400 years old finca, designed by Rolf Blaskstad which sits amongst 4 hectares of wild flowers, forests and mountains. A truly authentic Ibizan experience.

Residencies provide a time of reflection, research, presentation, production and immersion into a new culture. They often allow an individual to explore their practice within another community; meeting new people, using new materials, experiencing life in a new location and potentially integrating elements of that experience into their art. Art residencies emphasises the importance of meaningful and multi-layered cultural exchange and immersion into another culture.

A program of regular talks, workshops and other events are run by the foundation in collaboration with the residents to promote interaction and exchange of ideas both among the residents and with the wider community.

Further facilities include free wifi throughout the villa, salt-water swimming pool, an organic herb garden and a screening/projection room. Two delicious, healthy meals a day will be provided to the residents, laid by our in-house chef.

Application to Maecenas Residency program is via the online application form, which requests examples of work and CV information, as well inviting applicants to detail what they hope to achieve while staying with us. The shortlist is circulated to the Foundation’s Advisory Board for feedback before the residency places are offered to successful applicants.

Artists are not required to donate works to Maecenas Foundation at the end of their residency, however any form of contribution to the fund is greatly appreciated. In the case of visual artists this is most tangible, but in every artist’s case it is a unique conversation – it may mean just giving talks to the wider community, perform a concert, donate a book to our library. Donated artworks hang throughout the property, giving the historical spaces a visual memory of past residents’ work and their experience during their stay. Through our extensive network we help artists promote their work through exhibitions, concerts, grants and facilitating meetings between artists and their audience.

We accept applications from all creative disciplines, including but not exclusively: visual artists, photographers, illustrators, ceramicists, furniture designers, product designers, graphic designers, fashion designers, professional chefs, filmmakers, screenwriters, playwrights, novelists, journalists, musicians, dancers, choreographers, performance artists and curators.
